Daybreak ideas-
Because you can't cut comments and giant huge comments are rude.
Stupid Rex ideas:
🐶Bulgarians nod for 'no' and shake their head for 'yes.' Rex usually goes out of his way to reverse it in his head, but there are endless chances for shenanigans if he forgets.
🐶In his canon, whenever Rex encounters sirens/succubi/incubi/anything that seduces people magically, he claims to be immune because he has already seen the face of the most beautiful woman who ever lived, usually then looking wistfully into the middle distance and coincidentally at one of his girl companions, causing some severe misunderstandings. He actually means his mom.
🐶No one can correctly guess his age. I'd love someone to believe he's faculty or be like 'why are you, a thirty-year-old man, creeping around all these teenage kids?'
🐶Attempts to clean Rex up. As in makeovers, haircuts or other efforts to help him not look like a freakazoid. These things will fail.
🐶People spotting Rex doing small acts of kindness like feeding stray animals and him getting really flustered about it if they bring it up.
🐶Someone call him handsome and watch him literally jump out of a window because he can't handle it. Added 21st Feb 2019: One down!
🐶Being mistaken for a daemon because of his mannerisms, especially his laugh.
🐶Upgrade the phrase 'Rex, why are you like this' from a discord meme (it has been asked a lot) to an IC meme.
🐶"You won't get away with this!"
"Fool, do you even know what I intend to get away with?"
🐶Dog jokes. IC dog jokes. Someone get him a collar. Added 16th Feb 2019: As Rex is English as a third language someone could easily bamboozle him into thinking doggo terms are normal.
🐶Casually mentioning really miserable stuff like it's a normal part of human existence. "Hey, in your orphanage how did you deal with it when they forgot to feed you? I used to eat dirt so my stomach didn't digest itself."
🐶Someone gets Rex to watch a classic movie which has a mom death (suggestions of Bambi or The Land Before Time we’re amazingly good) and he has a breakdown.
🐶Added 3rd March 2019: Training to fight big things like ogres or whatever? Draft Rex.
Slightly more serious ideas:
🐶The Hero Medal reveal! In canon and Daybreak Rex keeps his status as a chosen one very close to his chest, with only his right-hand woman Mel knowing from the start. Of course, in Daybreak, the Hero Medal is not something the entire history of the world has revolved around and so it's not as big a deal as it is in canon. I'd especially love one of the ancient people around who maybe knew a prior hero or perhaps just someone well versed in magical history who realise it's a thing. But also maybe someone who takes his word for it and helps him do his job, but perhaps not so... Rex.
Maybe the Museum of Supernatural History has a big grand exhibit on the Hero Medal, and Rex sweats nervously in its presence. Either way, it'd really have to be someone who respects his wishes not to have it be common knowledge, even if it's just to humour him.
🐶I'd also enjoy Rex trying to do the reveal and them not believing him, and it just looks like he's schizophrenic when he says his medal tells him to do things.
🐶When some of his shadier stupid shit comes to light, maybe he's given 'court-mandated' recreational activities. Force him to act like a person before he dies of stress.
🐶Rex gets an actual stomach ulcer. Just spits up some blood. No big deal. Dragged to a doctor.
🐶Rex sets up an unnecessarily convoluted plan to get help with something he can't do alone, the scheme is revealed, and everyone involved says he could have just asked. Currently imagining he gets word of a daemon using his mom's distinctive sword and he sets in motion a plan to trick a bunch of people into helping him get it back entirely for sentimental reasons, when... He could have just asked.
🐶In Daybreak, Rex's nickname of Black Dog is partially based on his scavenging habits. He's very good at sniffing out lost or hidden locations to plunder and he sees no reason to stop now. He can arrange a dungeon crawl or two.
🐶The owner of the Hero Medal is always meant to receive the following gifts from destiny:
a) mythical beast companion
b) blessing of a holy person
c) guardian angel (does not literally need to be an angel, but an otherworldly entity of almost any sort would work)
d) legendary weapon
Rex often tries to force things to obtain these and have it go horribly wrong, naturally receiving them in time. He already has his beast companion, Indrik, whom he considers useless.
Naturally, I'd love for him to get the 4 things in his own disastrous way in Daybreak too.
🐶Rex appears to die and comes back stronger like twelve times. Sometimes he deliberately fakes his death other times he just manages to escape it at the last moment. At one point he fakes his death mid-battle because he knew his current party gain significant power boosts from being emotional, making that an excellent tactic to defeat the foe they were struggling against. His one real death has his soul tangled up with that of his nemesis, causing Rex to be reborn as a monster in his place. Faking his death, or maybe something going horribly wrong and him just turning up like 'i lived bitch' is always great.
🐶Rivalries! Rex has as many rivals as he does friends.
🐶My thirst for people who knew his mom and have no idea how Basically Goku If He Was a Super Model Genius Woman gave birth to Rex knows no bounds. She had a huge supply of friends, rivals (Vegeta style 'never as good as her' ones mostly), enemies and lovers. She died roughly 12 years ago but had the life-changing battle that crippled her (and Rex after) quite late in life. So there are roughly forty years of adventuring she could have encountered people in. Honestly, I'd love if someone could sincerely tell him they fucked his mom. She got around.
🐶In canon, his dad is a mad scientist eugenicist and I cannot emphasise how much of a piece of shit he is. I haven't really thought if that's the case in Daybreak. Maybe? Who knows.
🐶On the subject of family in canon, he has numerous half-siblings, two elder sisters on his mother's side and five half-siblings on his father's side. His sisters were given away by Helen who didn't want kids at the time, his dad wanted kids for research material. Again, I haven't much thought about if this is the case in Daybreak.
🐶Getting Four Heavenly Kings (actual name pending). Essentially Rex selecting four people loyal to him to get major upgrades, up to and including actual body modification, as his personal muscle.
🐶The Big Bad Thing- Looking for inspiration on things that should not be messed with for Rex to mess with. Gathering several of these things so he can accidentally cause a real big mess is the ultimate goal.
🐶Someone who personally or whose organization is beholden/inclined to serve the chosen hero because it's a big deal and Rex really straining that by being a complete loser.
